Language immersion is a way of teaching bilingual language education where the target language is used alongside English as a primary language in school and to teach a variety of subjects such as math, science, and social studies.

Language immersion is an effective way to develop native proficiency in a second language.  After more than half a century of research, research has dispelled initial concerns that language immersion may harm English literacy.

Parents should nevertheless understand that language immersion requires a long commitment.

For example, English-proficiency of immersion students can lag behind non-immersion students in the early years. However, by the latter years of primary education, immersion students inevitably catch up. Across all social and economic background, the performance of immersion students as a group surpasses that of non-immersion students academically and linguistically toward the latter years of primary education.
